Lyceum students sweep digital photo contest

Multimedia arts students of the Lyceum of the Philippines University – Laguna recently swept all the top awards in the Filinvest Land-sponsored digital photography contest focusing on the breathtaking landscapes of Laeuna de Taal in Talisay, Batangas. Laeuna de Taal is a sprawling 60-hectare residential development of Filinvest Premiere that is being positioned as a nature-oriented, environmentally and culturally sensitive lakeside community, offering a spectacular view of Taal Lake.

University-LagunaHerly James Maguad, an 18-year-old incoming junior MMA (Multimedia Arts) student, bagged first place in the competition, which Filinvest organized to determine the landscape photographs it will use in advertisements of its new residential development, Laeuna de Taal.

“I was shocked when my name was called because the other photographers are much more experienced and professional. But I guess all I needed is composition, rule of thirds and passion for photography,” said Maguad.

The other top Lycean winners include Raemon Christian Wagan (2nd), an incoming senior and Yna Peralta (3rd), an incoming sophomore. Both are also MMA students.

LPU-Laguna president Dr. Peter Laurel congratulated the Lyceans who won the contest. “On behalf of LPU, I would like to commend Herly, Raemon and Yna for this feat, which is testament to LPU’s successful efforts in molding its students to become achievers in their respective fields,” Dr. Laurel said.

Dean Myla Loreto of the LPU-Laguna College of Arts and Sciences stressed, “This achievement proves that the Multimedia Arts program is leveling up to current industry needs and standards.”
