Fleming to lead digital photography workshop series

As part of the Blacksburg Recreation Department class offerings, local photographer Jon Fleming will lead a four-part workshop series in digital SLR photography.

The class will be held at the Blacksburg Rec Center on Mondays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., beginning June 2 and ending June 23. The sessions will feature instruction and simple hands-on exercises as concepts are introduced. Questions and open discussion time will be part of each session.

The goal of the class is to advance students from beginner to intermediate level photography, learning about the most important features and settings their cameras provide. The classes will offer instruction on exposure setting fundamentals, rules for composition, lighting and features of different types of camera lenses. Image post-processing and other topics key to the digital photography process will be introduced as well and a full set of class notes will be provided in .pdf format. During the class, optional “photo walks” will be scheduled apart from the Monday evening sessions to give additional opportunity for practicing important concepts in photography.

To sign up, visit or call the Blacksburg Recreation Department at 961-1135, or register online at http://recreation.blacksburg.gov. For more information, contact Fleming by email at flemingjk@hotmail.com. If unable to attend the June sessions, this course will be offered later in the year.
