What You Should Know About Abstract Digital Photography

By Angela Briggs

Now that we are in the digital age, you have the opportunity to take much more interesting photographs than you were, before. It is, of course, much easier to take vacation and holiday photographs, too, if you have a digital camera. What is much easier to explore, now, however, is abstract digital photography.

What this means is using various tricks and methods to create a unique and interesting picture. There are several different things that you can experiment with to give something that would usually be fairly ordinary or boring a fascinating spin. To begin with, one thing you can do is play with perspective.

The subject can be given a different look when the picture has been taken from another angle. You can, here, work on showing the subject in a way that it would not usually be seen in. It could be that this is done when you take the picture from the top or the bottom. A small object can appear large, which can, potentially, change the qualities that are most visible when it appears to be smaller.

Although, of course, it can be much harder to achieve, the reverse is true. Different things appear with different perspectives. However, if you want to play with texture, distance is another thing that will make a different. With a close-up, of course, you are able to see the minute detail of the subject. The beauty of this is that, after a point, it stops looking anything like you are used it looking.

You might even say that it appears to be a different object, altogether, from this new view. Another thing you will probably want to take into consideration is color. This is useful as a tool as it will influence the tone and the mood of the piece and can also contribute to the focus. You can experiment, here, especially since you do not have to be realistic. For example, you could create a single mood or a contrast by setting different colors together.

You could also try applying colors that you would not usually see with this subject. Potentially, this alters the way things appear a lot. Selective focus, something that is largely specific to photography, is also something to consider, here. With this, you are able to focus on one particular area of the subject.

It could, perhaps, be a part of the subject that would not usually be focused on, hence giving it a very different appearance. The way this works, of course, is to blur everything else and give the focal point sharp definition. This technique can also be used in tandem with color and other things. For example, you could use a similar or contrasting shade for the background to help further manipulate the focus.

Shapes can also be of use, here, too. The appearances of the subject can change quite a lot with the right application of light or perspective. To highlight curves or straight lines, you can use contrasting shapes to do so. Have a look around to find different ideas for methods that can be used to make the unique photos you want to with abstract digital photography.
