Shoot for a chance at winning library photo contests

<p>Each year, different branches of the Lafourche Parish Public Library System offer residents a chance to put their photography skills to the test by organizing amateur photo contests.</p><p>This year, three libraries are holding amateur photography contests.</p><p>You can submit your original work. Winning photos from other contests are not eligible for entry into these contests.</p><p>Here are the contests:</p><h3>For teens</h3>

<p>A photography contest for teens 13 to 18 can participate in Teen Tech Digital Photo Contest and Exhibit at the Larose Library, 305 E. 5th St.</p><p>Each year, libraries celebrate Teen Tech Week, a time to showcase digital resources and services for teens. In keeping with this year’s theme “DIY @ your library,” the Larose Library staff wants teens to showcase their tech skills</p><p>Teens can submit photographs of scenery or still life that they have taken. Submitted photos should not include people or animals.</p><p>Teens can scan and digitally alter their photos to add a technologically artistic touch.</p><p>The photographs will exhibit photo submissions during Teen Tech Week, March 9-14, at the library. An awards reception for contest winners is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. March 12 at the library.</p><p>Teens can enter up to three photos, which must be at least 4-by-6 inches and no larger than 8-by-10 inches. They should write their name, phone number and the title of the photo on the back of the photo.</p><p>All photos must be submitted by March 5.</p><h3>For all ages</h3>

<p>The Bayou Blue Library and Lockport Library are each holding amateur photo contests for people of all ages. </p><p>This is the Bayou Blue Library’s, 198 Mazerac St., first photography contest, and the Lockport Library’s, 720 Crescent Ave., fourth.</p><p>Participants are allowed to submit two photo entries, which should be no smaller than 5-by-7 inches and no larger than 8-by-10 inches.</p><p>All submitted photos must be appropriate for a general audience.</p><p>You can pick up an entry form at either library and submit that form along with their photo entries. Contestants should place their initials and title of the work on the back of their photos.</p><p>Submissions and entry forms for the Bayou Blue Library’s contest should be submitted by April 4. Submissions and entry forms for the Lockport Library’s contest should be turned in between March 1 and April 5.</p><p>Prizes are awarded to contest winners during National Library Week, April 13-19.</p><p>For information about any of these contests, call the library holding the contest.</p><p>Katina Gaudet is the librarian at the South Lafourche Public Library.
