Samsung Announces the NX Mini

Samsung has announced the NX Mini, a fashionable compact camera designed as a high quality alternative to a smartphone camera. Offering better image resolution and more flexibility, the NX Mini is aimed at those who want a low profile device to capture quality photos on the go.

The NX Mini features a 1-inch type 20.5-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and can shoot 6 frames per second and has shutter speeds up to 1/16000 (seriously, this is not a typo) of a second. The 3.5-inch display is touch sensitive and flips up 180 degrees so users can take self-shots or group shots, while framing the photo appropriately. It measures in at 4.35 x 2.44 inches, .89 inches thick, and weighs a mere .35 pounds. Samsung also touts the compact NX Mini as durable, thanks to its magnesium alloy body. The sturdy body also features an attractive faux leather finish with an aluminum top and lens.

As most cameras in the Samsung lineup, the NX Mini comes equipped with Samsung’s full connectivity options including NFC and Wi-Fi. These features ensure that users will be able to snap photos on the go and quickly share them with friends and family on social networking sites. Samsung also integrated Dropbox and Flickr into the camera’s software, so users can instantly backup their favorite photos online.

Those already invested in the NX line will be able to use any of the current Samsung NX lenses with the NX Mini by purchasing a special adapter (ED-MA4NXM). Those purchasing the NX Mini will also get a full version of Lightroom 5 for free with their purchase.

The NX Mini will be released in early April. The standard kit with the body and 9mm lens will retail for $449. There will also be a bundle including the camera body, a 9mm lens, a 27mm lens, and an external hot shoe flash that will retail for $549. The 9mm and 9-27mm NX-M lenses will retail for $179 and $279, respectively.  The 17mm NX-M lens will be available at a later date. The NX mini will be available in four colors including white, black, brown, mint green, and pink.
