Learn to make bread, photos at New River CTC

The New River Community and Technical College Office of Workforce Education in Summersville will offer classes in Homemade Bread Baking and Digital Photography starting in early April.

Lifelong baking enthusiast Carolyn Collins will bring the breads of the past back into your kitch-en. In this class you will learn how to make delicious homemade hot rolls, mouthwatering biscuits and made-from-scratch cinnamon rolls. You’ll even learn how to tell the difference between cornpone and cornbread. Participants will bake a different item each night to take home.

The class will meet at the 4-H Building at Veterans Memorial Park on U.S. 19 in Summersville from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays from April 3 through April 24. Tuition is $50 plus a $10 supply fee.

A four-session Basic Digital Photography Class will begin April 3. Instructor Matthew Todd has years of professional photography knowledge and teaching experience. A variety of photography tips and techniques will be taught, making it ideal for beginners as well as those with more knowledge.

Students will learn about basic camera functions, how to best use camera features and functions, lighting, the art of posing and recommendations for editing software and print options. Students also will have at least one on-site photo shoot.

The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at the Office of Workforce Education, 830 Northside Drive, Summersville. Students will be asked to complete about an hour of work outside of class each week. The class concludes April 24. Tuition is $125.
