An optometrist in Australia has won a newly created global prize in Specsavers’ Digital Photography Competition.

Simon Mitchell, of Specsavers Indooroopilly, Queensland, won with his image of inferior rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (shown here).

The UK prize was claimed by Katie Naphthan of Specsavers Horsham for her image showing toxoplasmosis.

Kevin Liu, Specsavers head of optometry development and one of the judges, said: ‘As expected, the majority of entries were from the UK or Australia and New Zealand where digital retinal photography is offered in every Specsavers store but with DRP currently being rolled out across all our Nordic countries we look forward to seeing even more international entries in the future.’
