If you haven’t taken a look at Alex McClure’s photography work, you are truly missing out. Alex is a commercial photographer with a passion for landscape imagery and has a photographic background spanning 3 decades. Although he is very modest, this photographer can rock out a landscape shot like no other. His photographic work emits style and emotion, as well as skill and talent.
Alex started his photographic career early. He grew up in an artistic family and decided quickly that photography was his passion. Alex saved his money and purchased his first camera–a Pentax K1000. Early on, Alex earned a living working at a ski resort where he could fuel both his photographic passion and his desire to be in the great outdoors.
Alex fought going digital for many years as he has found solace in the darkroom where creating imagery was more than just clicking the shutter. “Our job as a photographer is to capture the image. Our job as an artist is to show others our vision.” Although Alex still occasionally enjoys using film, his search for a great camera brand landed him with Olympus. His camera bag is stuffed with the newest Olympus gear including:
His favorite lens is the 12mm f2. As a landscape photographer, he uses it all of the time. The OM-D E-M1 is his workhorse, but he still loves his E-P5. He even recently converted his E-30 to an IR camera.
Photographing the outdoors is a huge part of Alex’s life. He has been an avid backpacker and hiker for many years. When asked what he is most proud of, Alex responded, “…I would have to say my Photo Walks.” Alex enjoys teaching others the secrets of his success. Several times a year he organizes photo walks. During these walks, Alex shows others how to create amazing landscape imagery. “I love seeing people with that “Ah-Ha” look.”
Alex is the organizer of the Photographer’s Adventure Club (PAC) where he stresses learning and giving back to others. He teaches good photography habits and enjoys watching others constantly improve. Alex has a huge respect for nature and encourages others not to disturb nature while shooting it.
Alex has been a member of Olympus’ Trailblazer program since 2013. The Olympus Trailblazer program “…celebrates the work of emerging photographers who use Olympus cameras and lenses.” And Alex couldn’t be prouder. He sees his fellow photographer friends as “digital pioneers.” Alex wholeheartedly believes in his passion and the state of the industry. “As we get stronger, the industry gets stronger.”
